The Race Across America (RAAM) is probably the most daunting challenge for any cyclist in the world. Starting at America’s West Coast it covers more than 5000 kilometers (app. 3.100 miles) crossing the most epic but also most inhospitable regions of the US before the competitors reach the finish line on the East Coast. While on their way, riders have to take on the elements as well as their own physical limits. The equation “You sleep – you loose” is constantly in their brains.
Taking part in and eventually winning the world’s hardest bicycle race, is the ultimate goal of the Austrian extreme cyclist Christoph Strasser. At the age of 26 he can still be considered a newcomer in a discipline usually dominated by more “experienced” athletes. Despite his young age, Christoph Strasser has already become one of the big players in the top league of endurance bicycle racing, topping his efforts with winning the Ultra Marathon World Championship in 2007.
